The private funeral has come and gone. There will be a public celebration of the life of one of the world's great characters in yoga teacher, sports commentator, writer, musician and waterman, Damien Lovelock, of the Celibate Rifles on Saturday, August 24 at Newport Surf Club in Sydney from 2pm. I am so sorry that I won't be able to travel from Canberra to Sydney for this important send off to Damien. Please know that from this 60yo, the Celibate Rifles, with Damien at the helm, gave me immense joy for decades of my youth - middle age. Our country has lost a masterful singer and individual without pretension. Adieu, Damien! I for one will miss your fabulous energy and smile.
In a way I grew up with Damo and Kent and the rifles. Such a powerful influence on the Sydney rock scene. So many gigs, most recently the Flow Bar beer garden at Old Bar. All of them lifting the spirits and making us believe that real rock will never be a multinational product for consumption by the masses. A belief that Damo made evident, a true wordsmith. We'll miss you and your stories mate. You were one of a kind.

So now Damo takes on the afterlife, a legend in this life & the beings of a legend in Mid God. Couldn't give a shit if you don't think so. The universe doesn't waste a beautiful life & it being such a voice of the people as Damian Lovelock, I for one will never forget the inspiration he instilled in me a humble roadie. ROCK ON DAMO!!
