Dirt and Dust - Anti-Fashion (Very Fried Artists/Noize In The Attic Records)
Hello, I-94 Barflies. It’s been a while between drinks, but have I got one helluva album to tell yah all about.
"Dirt & Dust" is the second album by Anti-Fashion, the project established by UK rocker JJ Watt and Los Angeles-based punk journeyman Frank Meyer. The news is that it rocks.
Meyer and JJ Watt kicked off Anti-Fashion during Covid times, initially jamming on some Social Distortion tunes, They then they started writing songs of their own, gathjering some friends and making a record. The full band is Rob Cass (Midnight Dogs) on vocals, Kath Edmonds of Kath & The Kicks on drums, Steve Ward (Midnight Dogs) on bass, Watt of City Kids on guitar and vocals and Meyer (Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs and many more) on guitar and vocals.
“Dirt & Dust” kicks off with the single, “Drag Me Down”, and it’s a cool rock-punk song with a familiar intro riff. “Let Love Rule” rocks on a great drum sound and some wonderful lyrics.
There are plenty more highlights. “She’s The One” just grooves – and I bloody love this tune. “No Escape” is a very dark song and it’s very bloody good. Play it loudly. “Going Nowhere” and “Nightmare” keep things pumping. "Day By Day”? Listen to the guitars…it’s a wonderful track.
“From The Heart” is just pure punk rock – and there’s nothing wrong with that. “Wild Animal”, however, is my go-to track on this album - and should be the second single, IMHO it's a headbanger of a track.
The title track has a country feel without really being country. You can be the judge of this one.
