Robyn Hitchcock opening with the seminal ”I Often Dream of Trains” at The Tote in Melbourne
It was up there with the greatest set opener i’ve ever witnessed…hair on the back-of-the-neck stuff.
The Prize
They’ve got the looks, they’ve got the songs and they’ve got Nadine. Oh boy! Debut album drops around March.
The Saints
The double whammy of the superb box set and the shows was a 1-2 of the highest order.
The Mad Max Parade of Intercepors and other related vehicles down the main street of Clunes
It was mind-blowing. No Mel Gibson, though.
The Church
The “Already Yesterday” shows were amazing to hear all those early classics. If only Richard Ploog could have shown up.
Celebrating Ronald Brown’s birthday at Radio Birdman’s Croxton gig
A ripper. My third time witnessing Radio Birdman and the distortion attack had given way to a far more melodic approach - and I, for one, appreciated it more. Go figure.
The Damned in Melbourne
A set heavily focused on “Machine Gun Etiquette”, “The Black album” and “Strawberries” with that line up. Superb!
Rowdy’s Records and Strangeworld Records in Melbourne
Two of my finest discoveries in 2024. I’ve spent an obscene amount of dollars on wax this year but like my own should-have-been-a hit song goes, “Fuck The Money”…which leads me to….
A Road Trip to SQ Queensland in April to record with my ‘80’s band SSD
It yielded the EP “Rip Shit or Bust” and we liked it. I then followed up with my solo album ”Crystalized”. I like it. You might, too.
Sydney Road Trip in December 2024
My first time in Sydney central since 1977 kicked off with a four-hour boat ride on the Harbour with Private Function’s Xmas KISS Party. If Private Function aren’t the most amazing live experience going around right now, I’ll eat my hat. My last night in Sydney was a virtual I-94 Bar indoctrination at the Marrickville Bowlo. A ripper venue and the triple threat cage match bill of the Psychotic Turnbuckles/Bahne Super Flex/Chainsaw Four was sheer delight. Meeting local bar dignitaries such as The Barman and others for the first time after 20 odd years of online fandom was very cool. I can see me getting back there in ‘25.
